Fortnite Banks 3 Billion Dollar Profit in 2018
Fortnite Printing Money in 2018 – Nearly a $3 Billion Dollar Profit in 2018
Epic Games, the video game creator of Fortnite Battle Royale and Save the World has had an outstanding 2018. Fortnite’s Battle Royale, has recently become the world’s most popular game, growing Epic Game’s valuation to near $15 billion. According to sources, Epic Games has grossed a $3 billion profit for this year fueled in large part by the continued success of Fortnite Battle Royale.
Fortnite, which is free to play but makes money selling digital items, such as cosmetics and Battle Passes. Seasonal Battle Passes that sell for $9.50 USD, allow players to earn various cosmetic awards in that specific Season to use in game play. Cosmetics and skins that you can use in Game play can be purchased in Fortnite’s Daily Item Shop range from $8 to $20 USD. Keep in mind, Fortnite has it’s own currency known as V-bucks which can be purchased on their platform. 100 V-bucks is equivalent to about $1 USD.
Founded in 1991, Epic Games hasn’t given revenue figures specifically for Fortnite, which has 125 million players and growing. However, this new profit milestone, combined with other pieces of data, presents an idea of the success Epic is seeing as a result of a change in strategy made six years ago.
This past September, Epic commanded a valuation of nearly $15 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal, as investors like KKR, Kleiner Perkins and Lightspeed jumped in on a $1.25 billion capital raise to grab a slice of the video game firm. China’s Tencent, the maker of blockbuster chat app WeChat and a prolific games firm in its own right, became the first outside investor in Epic’s business back in 2012 when it injected $330 million in exchange for a 40 percent stake in the business. It appears as Tencent’s investment in 2012 is about to pay off big time as the success and popularity of Fortnite Battle Royale and Save the World continue to grow.
