In general, this latest Apex Legends update aims to accomplish two main goals. On the character balance side of the equation, Caustic and Gibraltar have become more competitive Legends despite their unique hitboxes and increased size. Even if these two girthy player models take more damage, the new Fortified perk listed above should keep them in play for longer periods of time. It ensures that smaller characters like Pathfinder, Lifeline and Mirage don’t dominate the meta.

For weapons, Respawn has decided to introduce a blanket buff for most ranged weapons in the game. Under the new system, players won’t be punished quite as much for hitting less accurate shots from far away. While competing Battle Royale titles like Fortnite are admittedly heavy in SMGs and shotguns, the developers behind Apex Legends hope to stifle that trend before it starts. Greater weapon variety leads to new tactical opportunities, which should be a net positive for everyone. This patch doesn’t include the sweeping gameplay additions some players are hungry for, but it does refine the base that exists in some pretty intelligent ways.
